Norwalk-headquartered Hearst Connecticut Media Group has announced it is ending the daily publication of The Register Citizen newspaper in Torrington and will transition the publication into a weekly newspaper. The Register Citizen was founded in 1874 and acquired by Hearst in 2017. It is currently the only daily newspaper serving Litchfield County. In an unattributed statement published on The Register Citizen's website, the Hearst management insisted the switch in publishing schedules came as 'reader preferences continue to shift to online and industry headwinds create challenges for carrier delivery.
